From Launch to a Growing Platform

With JUP!, a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) was developed in just four months, bringing together information, engagement opportunities, and recreational activities for young people in a single app. Since its launch, we have been continuously developing the app in collaboration with the Süderbrarup Municipal Office, always keeping the needs of young people and educational professionals in mind.

From needs to features

JUP! combines local news, events, surveys, and support services in a single app. After developing the MVP, the next phase began: Together with the Süderbrarup municipal office, we identified and prioritized additional needs and translated them into concrete features. The following questions were central to this process:

  • How can gamification work without deceptive patterns or pressure?

  • How can JUP! offer groups a safe space?

  • How can content management be simplified in everyday educational settings?

The process follows our human-centered approach: understanding needs, defining relevant challenges, developing suitable solutions, and implementing them technically. Strategy, UX/UI, and software development are closely intertwined to ensure that JUP! features truly work in the everyday lives of young people and educational professionals. These new features are gradually evolving JUP! into a stronger digital meeting place.

You can find all the background information on JUP! in the case study.

  • Two smartphone mockups on a patterned yellow background. The “Badges” page displays several badges, and a pop-up provides information about the “Stimmstark” badge that has been earned.
  • Three smartphone mockups are arranged in a row on a light blue patterned background. The “Leaderboards” page shows the rankings for Mario Kart.

Fun and motivation without pressure

Through thoughtfully designed gamification, JUP! makes its features fun to explore — without pressure, artificial scarcity, or other deceptive patterns. Awards and badges reward young people for discovering features in the app and visiting the youth center. This effectively links the physical meeting place with the digital experience.

Leaderboards complement group activities on-site: During a Mario Kart tournament at the youth center, the rankings can be saved in the app.

Reaching the right people

Sometimes, information shouldn’t be visible to everyone. The groups feature allows institutions such as schools or youth centers to publish news, polls, and events specifically for members of a group. Data protection plays a central role here: real names are protected, and membership requests are reviewed by administrators.

Streamlining work through content planning

A lack of time is a daily reality for educational professionals. To ensure that JUP! truly makes their work easier, news, events, and surveys can now be created, scheduled, and published directly within the app. For complete control, content can also be managed through a traditional content management system.
