Fully controlled via app – a clean solution

BOSCH robot vacuum with mopping function

In just a few months, we integrated the new BOSCH robot vacuum into the Home Connect ecosystem. The device sets a new standard for holistic, user-centered design and is the first BOSCH home appliance to be controlled exclusively via an app.

Innovation in the Home Connect Ecosystem

Our goal was not only to integrate the BOSCH robot vacuum with mopping function from a technical standpoint, but also to embed it as a fully consistent digital user experience within the BOSCH Home Connect app ecosystem. The key technical challenge was to merge Home Connect’s existing communication protocols with those of our technology partner and to develop a minimally invasive yet robust extension for both sides.

At the same time, we faced a technical innovation at the product level: The robot vacuum with mopping function was the first BOSCH home appliance to be controlled exclusively via the app. Therefore, we placed a special focus on user-centered and intuitive operating logic.

Managing Complexity and Minimizing Risks

The joint venture between BOSCH Home Appliances and a technology partner significantly reduced development risks in the areas of hardware, sensor technology, and navigation logic. However, complexity arose due to the tight timeline, stakeholders spread across the globe, and remote collaboration across cultures and time zones. In addition, coordination required structured communication, as BOSCH Home Appliances’ technology partner had no prior experience with the Home Connect architecture. Thanks to the collaborative partnership based on mutual respect, this complexity was also successfully overcome.

User-centered design meets cutting-edge technology

We began designing the digital user experience with a holistic product vision. Through iterative cycles of conceptualization, prototyping, and technical validation, we continuously tested our initial assumptions against the data actually provided by the robot vacuum. This approach allowed us to identify risks early on and make informed decisions based on the device’s actual capabilities.

To meet the tight deadline, we defined a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and incorporated it into a structured development backlog.

The UI implementation was based on the Home Connect Design System we developed. The use of reusable components, consistent interaction patterns, and a clear visual language ensures a uniform user experience across device categories. At the same time, this approach achieves significantly greater efficiency and speed in front-end implementation.

Sustainable added value through robust integration and innovative UX

This integration sets new benchmarks, particularly in the areas of map display, data security, and user-friendliness. Thanks to its scalable architecture, new device types and models can be integrated quickly and efficiently. Furthermore, through the interplay of user-centered design and state-of-the-art technology – combined with a robust integration strategy and a clear system architecture – we have created sustainable added value that extends beyond individual products.

The successful launch of a total of seven models took place on the European market at IFA 2025. Additional model generations are already in the planning stages and will be introduced to the market in phases.
