Tourism SH – the Knowledge Platform touhuus

touhuus is currently being developed as the new central knowledge platform for tourism in Schleswig-Holstein. It brings together industry-specific information, practical tools, and networking opportunities for tourism stakeholders. The goal is to strengthen knowledge transfer, promote collaboration and position the industry for the future. During the Tourism Strategy 2030 conference, UXMA was able to test the current version of touhuus live with actual users. Based on an extensive preliminary research project, it is taking shape as a new B2B platform.

When research leads to results

In 2025, UXMA had already developed and presented a concept for a knowledge platform as part of a preliminary project with the implementation management team for the Schleswig-Holstein Tourism Strategy 2030. In March 2026, the current version of the platform was unveiled at the Tourism Strategy 2030 conference—including the official announcement of its name: touhuus.

A strong name for a platform that is still under development. That is why it was essential for the next phase to test the current version with real users. To this end, part of the UXMA project team—comprising software and design specialists—was on-site at the conference. In two sessions with a total of six groups, future users were asked to test touhuus. The central question: How user-centered is touhuus already, and where is there still room for improvement?

Overview and Functions

The knowledge platform is a flagship project of the implementation management team based at the Schleswig-Holstein Tourism Agency (TA.SH). As a B2B platform, touhuus serves as a central hub for the tourism industry in Schleswig-Holstein, where information, projects, and networks are consolidated and where tourism professionals can network and exchange ideas. For this reason, the design consistently focused on user-centricity and the insights gained from the preliminary project. The goal is for stakeholders in the tourism industry to be able to use touhuus intuitively, avoiding detours or unnecessary clicks.

touhuus live-testing

Through live testing, the UXMA team had the opportunity to observe, in direct interaction with users, how they navigated the platform. Using a click dummy, they were able to track, step by step, how users clicked, where they acted intuitively, and where obstacles arose.

The sessions focused on the following features, among others:

  • Is all relevant information about flagship projects found and understood?

  • Is a heart icon understood as a way to mark something as a favorite?

  • Is the navigation in the profile editing section clear?

  • Can users find the “Interests” section?

The unfiltered dialogue was particularly constructive. Users shared their thoughts, expectations, and frustrations directly, providing deep insights for further development.

From Insights to Features

All findings have been carefully and thoroughly documented. They provide a solid foundation for implementing targeted optimizations and consistently developing touhuus in line with users’ actual needs. The new features will go live on the platform in Q3. As we continue the development process, we remain committed to our goal: to expand touhuus into a dynamic and intuitive platform that sustainably strengthens tourism in Schleswig-Holstein through digital means.
