Long car journeys as a test for parents and children
Almost every parent can tell you how challenging a long car journey with small children can be. Boredom quickly sets in, often the little passengers are not yet able to independently control audio content via touchscreens and even if they can, their tolerance for headphones is usually still low, wired headphones quickly become a trap on the seatbelt.
Once the little passengers have fallen asleep, every stop, be it in a traffic jam or at a petrol station, can interrupt their sleep and the cycle of falling asleep starts all over again. On short journeys, many parents try their hardest to prevent them from falling asleep so as not to disturb their night's sleep. Loud ambient noises to cover up stops lead to disturbed communication and distraction from road traffic, especially on journeys where only one parent is traveling with the child. With child seats facing the opposite direction of travel, even a simple glance in the rear-view mirror is a challenge.
