Educational Tech

Education is set to become more digital, more flexible and more accessible that is the promise behind the boom in educational technology (EdTech). But between AI-supported learning platforms, virtual reality and automated examination formats, a central question arises: does technology serve education or does education adapt to technology? The trend around EdTech has enormous potential, but often remains tied to a truncated concept of education and economic interests.

Does market logic beat didactics?

Whether Duolingo, Coursera or Microsoft Teams: EdTech offerings have long since arrived in everyday education often intuitive and technically sophisticated, but usually with a commercial ulterior motive. Data is becoming the currency, algorithms the educational leader. Although public educational institutions rely on data protection-friendly open source platforms, they are lagging behind in terms of usability and vision. As a result, the concept of education is increasingly being defined by tech companies and deeper learning processes are falling behind.

For education with attitude

EdTech can be a driver for equitable, real-life learning if pedagogical quality, data protection and conceptual reflection take center stage. Education is not a product that can be scaled at will, but a multi-layered process. What is needed now? Stronger public alternatives, clear ethical standards and the realization that technology must never be an end in itself. Only then will EdTech live up to its claim and become a real educational trend with substance.

Educational tech has the potential to change education – but only with attitude and responsibility.
