Meal calculation

  • Uncertainty in carbohydrate estimation leads to difficulties in accurately dosing insulin, which in turn leads to unpredictable blood sugar fluctuations and impaired quality of life.

  • By providing a digital database, the calculation can be simplified by specifying the amount of the respective food. This is used to calculate the amount of carbohydrates consumed.

Screenshot of the Carbster app: The user adds a food to the daily plan. The food apple is selected in the menu and the quantity in grams is entered using a keyboard in the control panel. The app then shows the grams of carbohydrates (gKH for short) in the preview - in this example 17.6 gKH for 129 grams of apple. Alternatively, a new food item can be created in the app and the grams of carbohydrates can be entered manually.

Accessibility

  • Carbster places particular emphasis on accessibility: contrasts, elements and visualization make it easier to use for people with visual impairments.

  • Carbster also offers text-to-speech support for even better accessibility.

  • The app adapts to individual device settings, supports light & dark mode or variable text sizes.

  • Carbster aims to make technology accessible to all - regardless of individual needs or abilities.

The clear, uncluttered design of the user interface is displayed on a smartphone. The complete daily list of meals is visible in four tiles arranged one below the other: breakfast, snack, lunch & afternoon snack. The grams of carbohydrates for the individual meals are also displayed. The tiles also contain small illustrations of the respective meals, which provide a good overview even without a closer look at the explanatory texts.
